What do you do when YRG doesn't fit into your day?

Ok, first let me clarify that the title of this blog isn't referring so much to time constraints -- the basic YRG workout only takes 20 minutes, and most of us can find that.I've been reading a…Continue

How often should I be replacing my yoga mat?

Hey guys, I was wondering how often a yoga mat should be replaced. I've had mine since I started on March 24th, and it seems to be both compressing and losing its gripped texture. In a few places, it…Continue

Taking a much needed rest day ... why do our brains always go "there"?

I guess there comes a point when we have to just give in and rest ... when passing out on the couch happens twice between 4 and 9 pm, even during one of the most exciting Super Bowl games ever, that's a sure sign that it's time ...Of course, taking the night to rest means I must break off my Energy Streak after 15 days ...I'm a little disheartened by this, and my brain keeps wanting to go to that place that says "what are you quitting for? what's wrong with you?"Why is it so natural that our…See More

I work scattered shifts, 7-4's, 8-5's, 10-7's and 12-9's. I tend to squeeze mine in around 10:30 at night when I finish at 9. While it's definitely a good thing to remember to give your body time to rest and recover, also…

Taking a much needed rest day ... why do our brains always go "there"?

I guess there comes a point when we have to just give in and rest ... when passing out on the couch happens twice between 4 and 9 pm, even during one of the most exciting Super Bowl games ever, that's a sure sign that it's time ...

Of course, taking the night to rest means I must break off my Energy Streak after 15 days ...

I'm a little disheartened by this, and my brain keeps wanting to go to that place that says "what are you quitting for? what's wrong with you?"

Today is Day 1

Posted on January 22, 2012 at 9:15pm 0 Comments

As I mentioned in a prior blog, I challenged a friend of mine, who is a self-professed chocoholic, to partake in the "One Bite at a Time" challenge to help her kick her chocolate habit. I am nearly through day 3 without eating a chocolate bar.

For her, halfway through day 2 she stumbled, but I am extremely proud of her ... not because she stumbled, but because of how she reacted to it. Today, we had the following extremely short conversation:

Me: I'm halfway…

Streaking ...

Posted on January 21, 2012 at 9:39pm 1 Comment

January 21 is in the books, and so is day 2 of  my Energy Streak challenge, and day 3 of One Bite at a Time: Chocolate Bars. I'm pleased with myself for not allowing myself to say "ah, I was up at 4 am and worked all day, forget Energy"

My goal for Energy at this point is to keep my streak going clear up to February 10th. I know I'll have to break it Feb. 11th, as I'm in travel from 3 am PST to 10:45 PM EST, including connectors.By my count, that will set an energy streak…

The next phase of the "One Bite at a Time" challenge ...

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 10:07am 1 Comment

Since submitting the One Bite at a Time challenge to the Challenge Center, I can proudly say that I have kept my streak of not eating ice cream alive for over 100 days, and have avoided eating nachos or buying a bag of chips for almost a full year ...

The next step starts today, with taking on the challenge of removing chocolate bars ... I don't eat many, but I still feel that the few are too many. Today, January 19, 2012, is Day 1.

The evolution, however, comes…
